I don’t live in Pennsylvania anymore, but I’ve always been interested in the few historic Pocono resorts that still exist, and now it looks like there’s one less. I never made it further than the lobby of the Pocono Manor Inn, but it was on my list to try and stay there some time, but that isn’t ever happening now. Looks like the newer addition from 1925 is still pretty intact, but I bet the owner uses this as an excuse to level the whole thing and build something modern.

The place I worked out of of college used to do an annual strategic planning retreat at the Shawnee Inn in January, when the place was empty and the rooms where dirt cheap. I hated that job, but did enjoy the hotel. F ortunately, that one is fireproof and should be around for awhile.

That's a bummer. I live in that general part of the world. Close enough that I never really considered staying there before. Just based on that thumbnail picture, I wouldn't blame the owners for tearing down what's left and starting over. That addition is almost a century old, and it definitely took some damage.

I had family in Stroudsburg and I think stayed at the Shawnee inn when visitng in the winter. (Summer they would visit us) I always wondered what those places were like in their height in the 50s in the summer.

Dwight Eisenhower golfing outside, Lucille Ball getting drunk at the bar, and Fred Waring’s band playing in the ballroom?

I don’t know if they actually would have all be en there at once, but still.
